  • After work, I'll put the "hamburger" on top of the van, and start put things we want to take down to the beach house. Also, spend time packing & last minute preparation before go in for dinner.
  • We may want to have an early dinner & should not stay up late, because we need to wake up around 7am the next day

We will head off to OBX early in the morning, around 8AM after having a good healthy breakfast at home? The drive is going to pass through several well known places, like Williamsburg, Jamestown, Richmond. Then when we get closer to OBX, we will start to see the Chesapeak harbor near Newport News, with huge battle ships at Norfolk Naval yard. We will also go through the underwater Hampton Roads Bridge tunnel, no GPS signal here. Coming out of the tunnel we will pass by the ORF, let's mark the distance at this point so that we know exactly how long will it take to come back the next day picking up the rest of the gang.

Continue on, not that far, we will cross into North Carolina state. No longer than 15min, here we may stop to fill up gasoline or take a break at the South of the Border station. Driving for another 30 minutes, there are farm lands coming up on both sides of the roads. Fresh fruits and local produces are available, we may want to stop by & get the strawberry juice or ciders. They are fairly cheap & quality. Driving for another half hour or so, we should be crossing the 158 bridge, over the Currituck Sound. BTW, the "sound" is a body of water, closer to land. If the traveling is smooth and not many stops, we should get to the beach house around 2pm.

That means we need to take care of lunch on the road

After unloading stuffs, let's take a trip to town, to get neccessary stuffs at the market as well as checking out the tide condition, so that we can plan for our fishing sessions. We may drive to the Billy's (the local fish market) to see what they have, call first (252-441-5978) to make sure. If they have soft shells or fresh oysters/clams we may want to pick them up at the same time. Get back home, kick back for couple hours in the hot tub, watching the sun set; while anh Linh in the kitchen wrestling with the oysters & clams. I'll rig up the fishing poles, ready for action.

After dinner, we should check out the water temperature at the beach, and determine if we should go fishing that night.

Thursday

  • Surf fishing
If we can wake up early, we can drive out to the Oregon Inlet beach. This is a good 15min hike on the sand, but you will have the whole beach to yourself, and it's best just before the sun rise, the scene is just magnificent. We can stay & fish right off the surf for about an hour.
  • Beach walk
In case we do not go fish at Oregon Inlet, we can have an early morning beach walk, right off the back door.
  • Shopping
Swing by the Tanger Outlets, and see if there are any good deals.
  • Pickup the rest of the gang
Head out to ORF, if we come out early enough, about an hour ahead of time, we can drive across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, one of the technology wonders.
  • Late dinner:
    • Fried Calamaris
    • Soft shells
    • Shrimps
    • Cup-o-noodles (?)
    • Pho+? duoi bo (?)
  • Evening beach walk.
Bring a small flashlight and head off to the beach. A nice experience to walk bare feet along the beach which can go on forever.

Wake up & have a quick breakfast, try to finish whatever left since we do not want to pack & bring them home. Should head out around 10AM. On the way, we can stop at the border and have quick lunch there. This is a greasy restaurant, the foods are great & typical southern diner foods. If we can be on the road again within 30min, we should be able to get into ORF before 1pm, enough time for chị Lý & anh Khánh to go through the security gate & board the plane leaving at 2pm.

Continue on to DC, the trip is only 3hrs, and we can drive directly into DCA to drop off chị Lệ & Monique before 4:30pm for the plane to take off at 5:45pm.

When we get home, after unpack; should just kick back & unwind. Cook up something quick, or order in, or Miu Kee, or Pho+? 75 ... Something quick, since we've been in the car for almost whole day. After that, we can watch a movie on the hard drive.
