Bought a WDTV about almost year ago. It's a small HD media player box, which can play media files from USB hard drives. I like it because of it's size and full 1080p, HDMI output. It can also play almost any video formats, from the most popular encoding MPEG2 to DivX, it plays the file very well. After few months, I quickly wish for it to have a network port. Because, unplugging the USB drive to the PC to copy video files each day, is .. pretty boring. I also wished for it to support different files sorting, ie. by date instead of by name. Because when you have many CSI shows to catch-up, you want to watch old ones before the new one.
About 6 months later, then came the WDTV Live! Yeah, this is exactly what I want: with the network port. Now, I can just move the recorded TV shows from the PC into the drive. Perfect.
I then discovered of firmware hacks, and other things people did to their WDTV & WDTV Live. I now happy that I bought these instead of other media players.
