Mediagate MG-35

Few years back, I bought two Mediagate MG-35 with the intention to use them as a place to store all movies and using the built-in network interface to transfer movies from PC to this box without disconnect  & moving the box to the PC for transferring over USB cable. Well the box works 80% as expected, and here are few quirks:
  • Network transferring speed is a joke! Does not matter if you have a 100MB network, the transferring speed over network is only around 1MB. Yuk. Does not matter how much moaning & groaning to the Mediagate USA, the box was badly design in this particular area.
  • Watching movies using this box is a bit of playing the hit & miss game. Some MPEG files are played correctly, however some are missing sound, same issue to other encoding formats.
  • Fast forward & rewind feature responds slowly or sometimes hard to stop at the precise place.
  • Other than those, it's a ... good USB drive, nice & pleasant to look.
