Just came back from a weekend of getting together with my siblings and
it was too short. I believe that expression is just another words for when you just had a
good time, and the amount of shortness can be used to measure how
wonderful the time was spent. Yes, we had all the necessary components of a typical gathering: foods, cooking, and talks. Like a well prepared dish, for each component we also had all the spices & ingredients to make it a well deserved dish. For talking, we have them all: frustrations, memories of good & bad, venting speeches; but most important: caring, and kind words. In the afternoon, we all joined in to cook; sharing a kitchen & range. We compete & sabotage each others dish in a good way. We sliced, diced, peeled, chopped and we also simmered, fried, saute, and garnished. The dishes came out great. The bitter stout soaked into the 2nd day cooking of Irish stew, blended well with tendered ox tails and legume. The saute chicken livers & gizzards garnished with fresh green cucumber slices and cherry tomato dish was finished in record time. My long childhood favorite snack: spicy fried cassava root, chewy inside but yet crunchy outside. Also, the unforgettable steak fillet, grilled to perfection: pink inside and flavorful grill marks outside; just perfect with that 2007 Los Carneros Pinot Noir, lot 110. We had all of those while the sun was setting in Northern California sky, late July, when the temperature was hanging at 77 degree. I don't think I would get much disagreement when I said: it was too short. |
